A Tasmania Police spokesperson said the boat started taking on water after its engine failed. They said police were contacted by people aboard shortly before 10am.

A rescue helicopter is responding to reports of a boat sinking near Waterhouse Island in Tasmania's north-east.
The four passengers on the catamaran style boat activated its emergency position indicating radio beacon when the vessel started taking on water.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson said the alert is helping emergency services locate the exact position of the boat.
