Joining SANFL outfit Norwood this season after missing out on last year's national draft, Callow was invited to train with the Hawks for a month during pre-season.
The 18-year-old missed out in a three-man race for the Hawks' final list spot, but will undoubtedly be in clubs' calculations once more when the mid-season draft takes place on June 2.
McEvoy, who was named Hawthorn captain just one week before Callow arrived from Norwood, said the ex-North Launceston premiership forward had shown plenty during his stint at Waverley Park.

"Jackson was really impressive - he's a really impressive young man," McEvoy said.
"He was really humble but also really keen to learn, he asked lots of questions and he just had a first-class attitude.
"He's such a big body - he's a big strong lad and he hasn't even finished developing his body yet, but we were really impressed with him.
"There's no doubt that if he sticks at it and keeps improving he's every chance to be on an AFL list because teams are crying out for those big strong bodies that can still move well to compete in today's game.
"I'm very confident if he keeps working at it he'll get where he wants to go."
After introducing himself to Redlegs fans with a five-goal haul in pre-season, Callow has averaged a goal, 10 touches and five marks from his opening four games.
He took a game-high six marks in Friday's loss to West Adelaide, including a pack-crashing effort in the third term that made the SANFL's weekly highlight package.
