A new film dives deep into the lives of Mark and Nicole Waller, and their children. The couple start as carefree newlyweds with aspirations and dreams, but as always, life throws curveballs in their way.
The film is the result of 17 years of occasional filming by Director Jim Stevens.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Stevens said the idea for the film came when he was shown a painting created by Mr Waller, who was hoping to take his exhibition to New York.
The director met the artist and his partner, and was inspired.
"Just such a wonderful couple. So innocent and fresh and lovely," Stevens said.
"I thought the two would make fabulous characters."
Stevens said a trust was developed which allowed the film to be made.
Though Stevens said he did not know when to stop filming, the natural end of the film came when the two daughters left home to go to university.
"But during all that production period, I had seen a struggling artist and his desperate wife craving financial security. I saw this couple go through incredible ups and downs and challenges," he said
Stevens said the film was a "one-man-band production" for a long time, before collaborators came on board.
Close to 100 hours of footage was collected during filming, and it took Stevens a year to edit the footage into a form that could be shown to collaborators and producers.
The director said he hoped audience members would take away the message to never give up.
Meet the Wallers will be shown at the Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival coming up in May.
