Launceston acting mayor Danny Gibson acknowledged the contribution the organisation had given to the city.
"[It] boasts an admirable record of contribution to Tasmania's arts sector since it was established in 1976, and this is an opportunity for the community to give back," he said.
"It has played a huge role in our visitor economy as well as in the arts, notably through exhibitions like the wood collection."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Design Tasmania executive director Claire Beale said reaching 45 years was a massive achievement for any cultural institution in Australia and she hoped it continued for at least another 45.
"What's exciting for us is that for 45 years we've been representing designers and makers," she said.
"We've provided a place for the community to engage to commissioned purchase to experience and to learn."
A fundraiser event will be held on May 7, with tickets costing $79 per person.
