The COVID-19 case of an Auckland International Airport cleaner is not expected to affect the first trans Tasman flights in and out of Hobart on Thursday says Public Health director Mark Veitch.

The case was reported on Tuesday, the second day of the trans Tasman bubble.
Dr Veitch said Tasmanian health officials would meet with their interstate and NZ counterparts on Wednesday afternoon.

He said additional information on the case, including any locations that may pose a high risk of infection was also expected Wednesday.
"There is no current expectation that these circumstances will affect the first flights between Auckland and Hobart on Thursday," he said.
"[The worker's] work involves cleaning planes that have arrived from countries where COVID-19 is common, and their infection is thought to have been acquired from this workplace setting.
"New Zealand Health authorities are interviewing the case to determine their close contacts in their household, workplace and other settings.
"Close contacts of cases of COVID-19 are required to quarantine in New Zealand, as they are in Australia."
