City of Launceston's general manager of creative arts and cultural services Tracy Puklowski has been selected to head-up the development of a new $200 million art gallery in Alice Springs.
Ms Puklowski said she would leave Launceston with mixed emotions.
"The National Aboriginal Art Gallery is an enormously significant project which I am humbled and honoured to have the opportunity to work on," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"In saying that, it is certainly with a touch of sadness that I will be saying farewell to what is one of the finest regional museums in this country at a time when it is charting an exciting new course in its evolution."
The National Aboriginal Art Gallery will be the centrepiece of the Territory Arts Trail and will focus on displaying, celebrating and interpreting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.
Launceston acting mayor Danny Gibson congratulated Ms Puklowski on her new appointment.
Ms Puklowski took up the role of director at QVMAG in October 2018.
Her replacement is yet to be announced.
