About 5.45pm emergency services were called to the Southern Outlet at Launceston following reports of a two-vehicle crash on the north-bound lanes.
Inspector Nathan Johnson, of the Launceston division, said it is believed inattentions on the road could have contributed to the crash.
"Investigations are continuing into that, but it's believed that inattention may be a factor," he said.
On arrival, first responders found a man in his mid-30's trapped inside the cabin of the flatbed truck. The driver was cut from the cabin and taken to Launceston General Hospital in a serious condition. His condition had since been updated to stable.
"My understanding is one of the drivers was discharged last night and the other driver is still in hospital," Inspector Johnson said.
