The weather bureau issued a severe warning yesterday morning, with damaging winds travelling up to 70km/h expected to continue throughout Wednesday.
Winds are expected to ease below the warning threshold this evening, but will remain gusty in the far south and northeast into Thursday.
State Emergency Service south regional manager Mark Nelson said Tasmanians will need to prepare their properties for the wild weather ahead.
"With damaging winds forecast for most of the state overnight and increasing today, I ask all Tasmanians to take a moment to prepare their properties, which includes trying down loose items, including outdoor furniture and play equipment," he said.
"We will have SES volunteer crews prepared and on standby to assist anyone affected by the forecast damaging winds, and I ask the community to help us by taking the time to prepare for the forecast hazards."
