The men's squad, coached by Nathan Brereton, had a tough first match against Western Australia Metro in pool B, losing 85-57 at Eagle Stadium.
While Tasmania's three-point game was mildly better than their Western Australian counterparts (9-24 against 4-20), the former had a much tougher time converting on offence, going 12-37 in two-pointers and 6-16 in free throws.
Launceston guard Lachlan Brewer had an uncharacteristically low-scoring game, finishing 2-9 in two-pointers and ending up with five points.
Fellow Launceston player Lachlan Maynard had a slightly better outing, going 3-5 in the paint and tallying nine points.
"He got going early on, making an impact and getting the rest of the team going," Brereton said.
"We're feeling much better now than after Saturday's game - we've looked at the tape and identified areas of improvement and are playing really good basketball."

Brereton added Maynard's impact on defense was another key to the side's win.
But Brewer's impact would be felt in Sunday's game against Victoria Country, with Tasmania winning the bout 83-70.
Brewer finished up with 20 points, shooting 50 per cent in the field topped off with three of five from downtown.
Penguin's Ryley Haywood and Hobart's Luke Brown led the men's team in points with 13 apiece.
The women's side, led by Tony Webb, also encountered a bitter loss 62-74 at the hands of NSW Metro on Saturday.
Despite a solid game by Devonport's Rubi Gray (8-18, 20pts) and Launceston Tornado Taya Webb (5-12, 16pts), the side had little luck shooting from downtown, finishing 5-27.

Gray once again shone for the side, sinking a number of crucial baskets including a comeback run to bring Tassie back from a 10-point deficit.
