Police allege the 45-year-old man incorrectly stored ammunition as required by the Firearms Act.
The act requires ammunition to be stored in a locked receptacle that is:
- separate from, or a separate compartment to, any receptacle in which a firearm is stored
- keyed with a different lock to any firearms storage
- or in a manner that is approved by the Commissioner
Police said Mr Brooks would be summonsed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court at a later date.
Mr Brooks said he would defend the allegations.
"I am a clay target shooter and I have had a discussion with the police in relation to the storage of ammunition, there are no firearms involved," he said,
"I will be vigorously defending the allegations."
