Launceston Church Grammar School has told The Examiner that "inappropriate sexual commentary" in an online chat group, which led to the suspension of two senior male students and year 12 students being counselled, had not "ranked the girls in a category of 'most rapeable'" as we reported on April 3.

This description of comments in the chat group was provided to The Examiner by the unnamed parent of an upset female student, and was also alluded to in a number of allegations provided anonymously in writing to The Examiner. Given the seriousness of the matter, the school was sent the article before it was published and the school raised no concerns. The article was published in good faith based on this information.
While the school said that some allegations contained in the anonymous letter to The Examiner were incorrect, it did not specify which ones, nor specifically address the parent's description when sent the article.
After further review of the allegations and additional information supplied to The Examiner we accept the school's assurance since we published the original article that this description of the chat group conversation was not accurate and that the school "does not tolerate incidents of bullying, abuse or inappropriate sexual commentary".
We also acknowledge, as reported in the original article, the programs the school has said it will implement to improve on the safe use of technologies, respectful relationships and mental health.
The Examiner apologises for the error in its original report and regrets any hurt caused to members of the school community.
