The two-time North Launceston premiership player, who was returning to North-West Coast footy after a previous stint with Devonport in the TSL, kicked four goals as his side won 14.10 (94) to 12.13 (85) after being behind at the first three breaks.
Stuart Turner also kicked four and with Jacob Hamill and Kallum Kubicki was the Cats' best, while Penguin, which was playing under the coaching of Maverick Weller for the first time, was best served by Toby Skene, Dusten O'Neil and Declan Lee, with Jack Templeton kicking three goals.
At West Park, Burnie started its quest for four straight premierships with a comfortable 77-point win over Ulverstone, 17.19 (121) to 6.8 (44).
The Dockers led by 20 at the first break and then extended their advantage to 52 at half-time before Robins showed some fight to win the third quarter by three points.
Bailey Boag was outstanding in the midfield for Burnie, while Harry Walters and former AFL player Tom Hislop kicked four goals each.
Brandon Howard was Ulverstone's only multiple goal-scorer, with Kurt Phillips, Justin Clarke and Joel Hennessy its best three.
The round started on Good Friday when Devonport disposed of Latrobe at Latrobe Recreation Ground by 50 points, 10.21 (81) to 3.13 (31).
The Pies were best served by attacking trio Joseph Chaplin, Luc Keep and Caleb Van Buuren, who kicked seven goals between them, while Quade Byard was brilliant in the midfield.
Bradley French, Brayden Scott and Jayden Last were strong for the Demons.
In the NWFL Women's competition, reigning premier Wynyard fell to Penguin at home on Saturday by seven points, 4.1 (25) to 3.0 (18).
It meant both of last season's grand finalists lost in the opening round after Devonport defeated Latrobe on Friday 4.4 (28) to 2.2 (14).
