Detective Sergeant Glenn Evans said shortly after 9.30am, police were called to attend the residence.
"[The callout was] in relation to what we believe is a firearm being discharged in that area, with a round impacting into that residence," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Residents of the home woke to glass breaking about 3.30am, and thought it was a blown light fitting due to a power surge.
Upon cleanup, the residents discovered a hole in a window consistent with a firearm and contacted police.
"Investigations conducted at the moment say only one shot actually impacted into the residence," Detective Sergeant Evans said.
"A projectile has been located inside the residence. That has been seized, and is to be forwarded to ballistics for examination."
Detective Sergeant Evans said police believed the offender was unknown to the occupants of the house.
"I don't believe this was a targeted incident. I believe this was more of a stray round that impacted this residence."
No injuries were reported.
Police doorknocked in the area on Saturday, where people reported hearing two gunshots and a car driving away, towards High Street.
A spokesperson said the incident did not appear to be targeted or connected to the incident in St Leonards on Thursday night.
Anyone who may have noticed unusual activity in Balfour Street between High and George Streets in the early hours of Saturday morning has been urged to call Tasmania Police on 131 444 or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
