Premier Peter Gutwein has assured Tasmanians that his government would not sell or privatise Hydro Tasmania following claims from Labor that legal loopholes exist which would allow the state's energy assets to be sold.
Labor leader Rebecca White said current legislation provides a loophole that allows for sale of assets without Parliament approval where the assets are not classified as a "main undertaking".
She said Labor would, within the first 100 days of winning government, introduce legislation that protects energy assets.
The Premier dismissed the claims as a "desperate scare campaign".
"It is a matter of public record that a re-elected Gutwein majority Liberal Government would not sell or privatise Hydro Tasmania, including Momentum Energy, Entura Consulting or the Tamar Valley Power Station."

But Ms White said the Premier was not to be trusted, as the legislative loopholes are "so large you could drive a truck through them".
She said Tasmanians should not forget Mr Gutwein trying to sell of the Tamar Valley Power Station.
"It is the shareholder ministers and the GBEs themselves that determine the definition of a 'main undertaking' so the current protections are not worth the paper they are written on.
"Clearly Momentum Energy and Entura are not considered to be 'main undertakings' by the Liberals despite delivering significant benefits to Tasmanians and employing hundreds of people."
The Premier however said the Liberals have a secure renewable energy plan.
"Tasmanians need leadership, not fearmongering. As I said today, there would be more chance of me going to the moon than selling the Hydro."
