LABOR IN PROTECTION MODE
THE loss of Madeleine Ogilvie from Labor to Liberals in the Electorate of Clarke and the omittance of Dean Winter for endorsement in Franklin says it all. State Labor is playing to protect its poor scared performers.

In footy, Labor is playing against its own party not the opposition and is a shoe in to be a disaster that suits the Opposition Treasurer and Deputy Leader David O'Byrne as they move to sack Rebecca White after the election so Mr O'Byrne can play king.
Not a Liberal voter, but hats off to Peter Gutwein, my only wish is to see ousted Speaker Sue Hickey win Madeleine Ogilvie's independent vacant seat in Clark and Jaine Finlay success in Bass.
A two-three-year national Labor takeover of the Tasmania Branch is a must to regain balance of a real Labor Party of the people, for the people. Hopefully, Ms Ogilvie's election will save Gutwein from the clutches of the deadwood serpents.

POOR RENTAL MAINTENANCE
I HAVE spoken with maintenance people about the empty homes in and around Launceston and they tell of heartbreaking findings amongst the homes they want to renovate.
Tenants don't only leave them dirty, but in derelict conditions, sometimes fired on purpose and causing a lot of pain for their neighbours. Some may be shocked if they drove around and saw the state some empty homes are left in. Don't blame the government for this. The blame lies with the ungrateful tenants who will not respect other people's property. This also forces up private rental, due to higher insurance costs.

SENATORS IN GLASS HOUSES
DON'T you love the names they give themselves, Eric Abetz commenting on the names of environmental lobbyists and interest groups (The Examiner, March 23).
In a thousand-word diatribe railing against conflict of interest and questionable scientific research, the good Senator adopts the high moral ground. Not one mention of the Institute of Public Affairs. The right-wing think tank that underpins much of coalition policy. Renowned for their climate denialism and unfettered free-market ideology.
Their members called themselves fellows, about as faux academic as you can get.
People in glass houses, good senator.

DOCTOR RELATIONSHIP
IT takes some time to build a relationship with your doctor. When you discover that your doctor has left his practice without any forewarning to go to another practice, I consider this an act of treachery.
To be placed in the hands of another without any prior recommendation just goes to show that medical centres these days are just factories. Amount of waiting time.
Everyone's time is important. When an appointment has been made, waiting in excess of half an hour without prior notification is inexcusable. It smacks of lack of care, arrogance, ignorance and respect for the client.
I have walked out of appointments after waiting for over an hour past the booked time.
Unfortunately, this tends to be a growing trend with medical surgeries where doctors are becoming inflated with their self-worth.

A BIG THANK YOU
LAST weekend I flew into Launceston to celebrate my mother's birthday.
My friendly taxi driver took me to a shop where I collected the present I had organised and then dropped me at my next destination.
I was both surprised and grateful when almost an hour later I saw the taxi driver again, running towards me with my mother's present in his hand. I had left it on his back seat but had yet to notice its absence.
I am so very appreciative of the taxi driver's thoughtfulness and honesty.
I don't know his name but he is originally from India and had lived in Brisbane previously. He was driving a red taxi, possibly from Combined Taxi Services.
I am hopeful he or one of his friends or colleagues will read this letter and he will realise that his actions have affirmed my belief in the goodness that exists in our world
