The pair said they were "jumping up and down on the inside" when they realised they were the winners of the draw on March 20.
They were one of eight division one winning entries nationally.
The father said they found out they had the right ticket on Monday.
"When I initially checked our ticket, I thought, 'what the hell is going on here?'.
"We probably checked the ticket 100 times and then went down to the newsagency for them to confirm it," he said.
"It's really great. Once the money is in our accounts, we will have a quiet dinner with our family to celebrate."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The pair are planning to put their winnings towards the dad's retirement, some fishing trips or holidays, and perhaps a new car for the son.
The pair bought the winning ticket from Burnie Newsagency.
The ticket was unregistered, and the newsagent had been on the lookout for the winner since.
Store owner Alan Berechree said he was very excited that the winners had come forward.
"It's such a great win, both for our outlet and for our winners," Mr Berechree said.
"It was a great moment to be a part of. We wish them all the best.
"It certainly created a lot of buzz in the store."
