The teams from the Northern State Emergency Service incident management unit and the Tasmanian Mounted Search and Rescue met at a private property in Lilydale to combine their operational tactics.
From safety briefings to radio communication, the volunteers took turns teaching each other new skills.
Neil Van Veldhuizen, the Deputy Unit Manager of the SES incident management unit in the North, said training operations allowed the volunteers to make mistakes without putting lives at risk.
"We don't want to make mistakes, or learn that things are broken, in a real situation," he said.
While SES setup its mobile emergency operations centre, and focused on communication skills, and general safety, TMSAR volunteers taught them about horseback rescues, and how to handle the animals.
"It was a mutually advantageous exercise, we all learned something from it."
