The Northern Hawks were the first cab off the rank, facing Waratah.
Hawks wing attack Steph Walker got the ball rolling early on, feeding the ball through transition well to the devastating offensive duo of Danni Pickett and Ashlea Mawer.
Defensive pressure applied in the second quarter by substitute goal keeper Gabbi Groves, as well as top transition from recent opens addition Kendall Jones, got the Hawks to a 32-23 lead at the half.

Mawer and Pickett kept piling on the points early in the second half, stretching the lead to 49-33.
Jones joined the offensive circle in the fourth alongside Mawer, with continuous offensive pressure leading to a 62-43 victory for the 2020 champions.
Later that day, the Cavaliers showed no mercy against the Kingston Blues.
It was tight goings early on, as off-season rust was shaken off by both sides.
Things began to heat up for the Cavs in the second quarter, stretching to a nine-point lead at the half thanks to their staunch new-look defence which included former Blues defender Bec Hyland.
A hefty third and fourth quarters from the Cavs' offence guided their side to an immense 68-31 win.
The Hawks and Cavs will face the Flames and Arrows respectively on Sunday.
