In front of a spirited crowd at Prospect Park, the Devils were quick to hit the scoreboard in the first term, taking a five-point lead in the the first break.
It wasn't enough to stop the Knights' momentum, who pilled on the points during the middle half of the game.
However, two final quarter goals from the North-West's Amy Bissett was enough to seal a victory, with the Devils winning 6.8 (44) to 5.7 (37).
It's a win Devils' coach Cameron Joyce struggled to put into words, overwhelmed with pride by how well the side came together when it mattered most.
"(The Knights) are a good team; they move the ball really well and really challenged us in the second quarter," Joyce said.
"They scored three goals in just as many minutes and really made it difficult for us.
"They were winning a fair share of the footy around the contest and they were able to fight hard.
"I think the way they dug in today knowing that they could have easily thought I'm a bit sore but they just kept coming and coming."
The Knights, which play in the metro division of the NAB League, are a side Joyce said were a good preparation for the Devils.
"Our midfielders responded as the game went on but our girls really stuck at it around the day," he said.
"The commitment levels they had for wanting to work for each other. No doubt; this is a big win knowing our girls have done a lot of work."
The win ensures the side will play in the finals series, now looking to ensure they secure a top two finish to potentially play in Tasmania.

- Cameron Joyce
It's a goal Joyce said the team had maintained throughout the whole season, eager to impress in the first full season of the competition.
"We've always wanted to play finals form the outset; we spoke about that right at the start of the year and we tried to break it down in small pieces," he said.
"Now the next thing is to see if we can get a home final in Tassie because that's what we're after.
"We have to be the top two but we can only worry about us at the minute."

With the side now on a three week break, Joyce said it would give the team time to recover and re-group ahead of the finals series.
"We've got one more game left (against the Greater Western Victoria Rebels) and then we play finals," he said.
"That's our next little challenge; over this three weekend window where the girls have got off, it'll give them time to freshen up."
