Police prosecutor Robert Shepherd read facts of crime spree committed within days of the release of Leonard William Riley from a 12-month jail sentence.

Defence counsel Olivia Jenkins said Riley was released onto the street without any support and had almost immediately resumed use of illicit substances. He was trying to get cash to buy drugs at the time of the crimes.

Shepherd said that Riley was spotted by the police motorcyclist in a black Hyundai after a series of crimes on Christmas Day last year.

"The vehicle did a U-turn and the officer believed he was going to be rammed so he alighted from the motorcycle. It accelerated and drove straight at him and the officer lost his footing," he said.

"When the black Hyundai was two to three metres away it swerved to miss him and as it did a hand came out the window and gave him the bird."

Riley pleaded guilty to three counts of evade police in aggravated circumstances two of which included reckless driving.

Earlier the same day Riley was driving an unregistered Nissan Pulsar when the bonnet flew up causing the vehicle to cross to the wrong side of the road.

"When the driver attempted to shut the bonnet he was identified as the defendant," he said.

Shortly after a police officer tackled him by the legs and he twisted his body to bite the officer on the thumb, breaking the skin. Ms Jenkins asked for a drug treatment order, which is an alternative to actual jail, for Riley saying he needed supervision. She said he was disappointed in himself and sorry for his treatment of police.

"Mr Riley has been in and out of custody many many times and needs something beyond prison," she said.

Riley's fingerprints were found on a bedside table at a home in Newstead from which he stole jewellery worth $500 and a bag with $150 cash. Magistrate Ken Stanton will sentence on March 30 at 11.30am.
