Health Minister Sarah Courtney has refused to be drawn on speculation a state election could be imminent.
Rumours have been swirling this week about the prospect of Premier Peter Gutwein calling an early election, reaching a fever pitch on Thursday night.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Addressing the media in Launceston on Friday morning, Ms Courtney was asked if an election was about to be called.
"That's a matter for the Premier," she told reporters. "I am not going to speculate what the Premier is doing today."
Ms Courtney said any decision regarding the election was one that sat firmly with Mr Gutwein.
"Clearly we have seen a range of events in recent times. The Premier has said he has got an open mind with regards to [the election]. But ultimately it is a decision for the Premier."
Journalists and camera operators are currently camped outside Government House in Hobart, in anticipation of Mr Gutwein arriving to inform Governor Kate Warner of his intention to call an election.
