Dr Morehead was appointed general manager of processing and will relocate from Hobart to the North.
He will be based at the Paramatta Creek site and oversee the site and provide leadership to Huon's facilities in Western Australia and New South Wales.
"My wife and I love the North so when the opportunity presented itself to move over to processing from being the general manager of marine operations, I jumped at the chance and haven't looked back," Dr Morehead said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
An internal appointment, Dr Morehead started at Huon Aquaculture 16 years ago in his first role as harvest manager, based at Dover.
"During the two years I spent in that position my focus was on improving fish quality and working on ways to improve the cool-chain and reduce flesh gaping," he said.
"This work formed the foundations of how we get such great harvest fish into Parramatta Creek where it is processed for our customers,"
Dr Morehead said he couldn't commend the processing team strongly enough for its performance and resolve during the past few years of unprecedented growth, along with staffing changes.
"The team have done a fantastic job and we now have an opportunity to review how we are doing, with the aim to streamline operations and reduce costs where we can," he said.
Dr Morehead has worked in various roles at Huon, including harvest manager, customer service and logistics manager, business development, general manager of projects, and general marine operations manager.
"In a previous role I was involved in sighting and developing a business plan for Parramatta Creek so I've come full circle," he said.
In addition to a relentless focus on product quality and safety, Dr Morehead will focus on sustainability.
"We will also focus on removing polystyrene boxes wherever possible which has been a key sustainability goal of the company for some time."
Huon directly employs 176 people at Parramatta Creek in addition to those on labour-hire contracts.
