It is not anticipated to be as extreme as that seen across New South Wales in recent days, as the rainfall amounts are not expected to be as high or the period of rain as prolonged.
The heaviest rainfall is expected to develop across the north east during Wednesday morning, before moving down the east coast Wednesday afternoon, clearing the southeast by early Thursday.
The BOM predicts between 60 and 100mm of rainfall across north east Tasmania, with in excess of 100mm possible in elevated areas.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Between 40mm and 80mm of rain is forecast across the remainder of the east of the state.
Meteorologist Alex Melitsis said river rises and flooding may develop from Wednesday onwards in response to the forecast rainfall, with catchments currently "relatively dry".
The conditions will be generated by a deep low-pressure system expected to develop over the southeastern mainland on Tuesday, moving close to the Tasmanian coast during Wednesday.
With rainfall totals on Wednesday and Thursday dependent on the position of the system, the BOM is urging people to keep up to date with warnings and forecasts on their website.
