Emergency services were called out to Mt Geryon after reports of a man falling from a significant height while climbing the south peak about 9.30am.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson said officers, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were dispatched to the scene.
The spokesperson said that, upon arrival access to the difficult terrain was possible via winch and the man was confirmed deceased a short time ago.
"Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones at this sad time," the spokesperson said.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
