Premier Peter Gutwein has left the door open for calling an early election, a day after delivering a sweeping speech teeming with funding and policy announcements.

The next state election is due by March next year - but today Mr Gutwein's language shifted noticeably when he was asked about a potential early poll being called.
"It's my intention to run full-term," he told ABC Radio.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"However ... I want to ensure that we set Tasmania up for the future. And I want to ensure that as we move forward, as we come out of COVID, that we can rebuild.
"So, I've got an open mind, to be frank, in terms of whether or not the election is held in March. The election will be held when the state requires an election.
"People can take from that what they think. My view is that I want to set Tasmania up for the future."
The Premier's comments came in the wake of his State of the State address yesterday, in which he announced significant reforms to TasTAFE, easier access to medicinal cannabis and the provision of free female sanitary items in state schools from term 3 this year, among other announcements.
