The unique event is aimed at getting people reacquainted with the history of Ruffins Bay while looking at the area through a new lense.

"We're following from the past through to now, the life of this area, the health of this area ... there could be some geological and archeological digs," Sculpture Tasmania chairwoman Robyn Barnett said.

"What we're doing which I think is really exciting is we're grouping artists, scientists and researchers together, they'll find the information and then the artists will build a representation of the [information] for exhibition.

"We feel there is such an importance to understand our heritage and growth of this area ... but we need to keep that knowledge and translate that knowledge."

Aspects at Ruffins Bay will be held at Waterton Hall Wines and include a trek along Ruffins Bay as well as a welcome to country and walking smoking ceremony conducted by Reconciliation Tasmania to pay respect to the Indigenous community.

Ms Barnet said the event, which combines academics with artists and writers, could be an event which takes off in popularity across the state.

"There could be a really exciting marriage in bringing the science into the arts project ... all these things we need to understand why they happened and to work with the artists who can turn it into something contemporary."
