UPDATE - 10AM
A Risdon prisoner is in a serious, but stable condition after an alleged assault yesterday afternoon.
The 26-year-old man was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital following the incident.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson said detectives from Bellerive CIB will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault with the assistance of Corrective Services staff.
EARLIER
Police are investigating an alleged assault at Risdon Prison yesterday afternoon.
One person was reported to have been injured during the incident and has received medical treatment after being taken by ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said police were called to reports of a serious assault in the late afternoon with forensic services and CIB also at the scene.
The spokesperson said police will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident in collaboration with Risdon Prison staff.
