
Kings Meadows' Rae Simpson has claimed her second state women's singles title after defeating young Buckingham bowler Jorja Maughan in Thursday's women's final at the North Launceston Bowls Club.
Maughan, who had a terrific win in her semi-final over Kim Saunders from Invermay, took the challenge up to Simpson, but the Kings Meadows bowler showed all her class in triumphing for the second time.
Meanwhile, two of the state's rising stars put on a show in the men's singles final, with Penguin's Jacob Brown racing to a 10-0 lead before Josh Walker-Davis from Trevallyn roared back into contention, at one stage winning nine of ten ends to take the lead 21-19.
Brown regathered his composure to win 25-22.
In B-grade, Heather Thompson from East Launceston made it back-to-back titles after defeating Trevallyn's Fiona Cort, while in the men's it was Brad Johns from Taroona who won a thriller over Cressy's Anthony "Jimmy" Bannon.
In the physically impaired section, Chris Newman took out the men's section from South Burnie, defeating Swansea's James Amos, whilst Marijake Raine from Huonville won the round robin women's section.
Beltana's Jason Dent won his second consecutive men's intellectually Impaired title after defeating Wayne Wright from Cosgrove Park Bowls Club.
Friday sees the women's and men's open pairs finals get underway at 9.30am at North Launceston.
