The Premier on Thursday said he "expected to hear from Gillon McLachlan" on Thursday night, with the outcome of that conversation set to be shared on Friday.
The clarity call has come following the AFL's resolution to establish an independent review into Tasmania's business case for a team, which was handed to the state government early last year, which would complete its work as late as early 2022.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Gutwein had called for a timeline for a potential Tasmanian team before entering negotiations with Hawthorn and North Melbourne, whose contracts with the state expire at the end of the year, about extending their stay in Tasmania.
Last week he said he'd had two "very constructive" conversations with the AFL boss over the issue in recent times.
