A police car parked in Mayfield had two tyres slashed on Sunday night while officers responded to a car crash.

Newnham police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision in Mayfield Street at 7.30pm on Sunday.
Launceston Police Station's Acting Inspector Mel Death said unknown offenders slashed two tyres of the marked police vehicle while officers assisted members of the public at the crash.
She said that offences of this nature were "extremely disappointing".

"It puts not only the safety of the police members at risk but also the welfare of the public by potentially limiting Tasmania Police's ability to respond to critical incidents," she said.
