As Launceston's Tour de France star reported that he remains in some pain but will soon be back racing, both his team and wife provided encouraging updates.

A day after Porte's crash and abandonment in the opening stage of Paris-Nice, his team INEOS Grenadiers tweeted: "We start a man down at #ParisNice today, but thankfully we can confirm @richie_porte suffered no fractures in his crash yesterday. He'll now head home, heal up and get ready to go again."

On the same medium, Porte's wife Gemma added some more colourful detail, reporting how their son was assisting with his recovery.

"Luca has his Dr kit out and is currently treating Richie... well he's shoving tools in his mouth and taking the blood pressure of his wrist so I'm not sure how much it will help but it's the thought that counts right?!"

Porte, who received a key to the city from Launceston council on his 36th birthday in January, had previously told The Examiner his 2021 schedule is vague but should be focused around the Tour de France and Olympic Games.

"Tour de Romandie was my first pro victory so I have a soft spot for that while the (Criterium du) Dauphine is the last one-week stage race that I have not won, although I've been close twice, and then it's into the Tour," he said while training in Launceston over summer.
