The spokesperson said the dolphin carcass had been retrieved by Parks and Wildlife on Sunday afternoon.
"A necropsy is planned to try and determine cause of death," they said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The boardwalk in the area was reopened Sunday afternoon, after it was closed to retrieve the carcass.
MCP wildlife experts had spent time searching for the dolphin during the week after it was reported swimming in the North Esk, Tamar and South Esk Rivers.
The DPIPWE spokesperson said the provided photographs suggested the animal had developed significant health issues due to fresh water exposure.
Anyone who sights a marine mammal or sees a marine mammal stranded should report it to the Whale Hotline on 0427 942 537.
