For about 20 minutes earlier today, one of Mood Food Grand Central's unleaded tanks was contaminated with diesel fuel.
Bennett's Petroleum chief operations officer David Camprad said the petrol station had identified eight customers who have been affected by the fuel mixing.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We are aware of it. It happened during maintenance work when a small amount of diesel was put into the unleaded tanks," he said.
"It was a period of no more than half an hour that there was access to the product."
Mr Camprad said the outlet had sophisticated CCTV footage and was able to easily identify the potentially impacted vehicles and was in the process of contacting owners.
He said the maintenance works were part of a forecourt expansion adding additional pumps to the station.
Launceston Towing truck operator Matthew Harding said he had received call outs to attend three cars linked to the fuel mix-up.
"One had made it to the top of the outlet, one had made it home, and another as far as Campbell Town," he said.
A mechanic by trade, Mr Harding said the cars he had picked up were in a sorry state.
"Each one I picked up had stopped due to the fuel, not because the owner chose to," he said.
"At least one still ran, as far as the other two I didn't ask or try.
"The owner of the one on the outlet hit start by accident and it just kept winding over but not starting."
The outlet is part of Tasmanian based Bennett's Petroleum which operates 14 petrol stations around the state.
