Authorities are asking for community assistance to help find a dolphin recently spotted in the Tamar River.

The dolphin, which is believed to be unwell, was last seen in the North Esk River on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment said its Marine Conservation Program wanted to find it to assess its health, but need some help.

"The team has spent time on the water searching for the dolphin, with no luck so far," the spokesperson said.
"Based on photos received, it appears the animal has developed significant issues due to prolonged exposure to fresh water.
"MCP's wildlife experts are keen to find the dolphin to assess its health."
The dolphin is believed to have been in the river since January.
Anyone who sees the dolphin is asked to report the sighting immediately to the Whale Hotline on 0427 942 537.
