A Northern District police officer has been charged and suspended from duty over an alleged incident that occurred last year.
The offences are alleged to have occurred during and after an incident at Newnham in August 2020.
The 50-year-old man was off-duty when the incident occurred, police say.
He has been charged with one count of assault and one count of perverting the course of justice.
The officer has been suspended from duty and has been summoned to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on May 17.
