The three-day event will begin with dressage at Faulkner Park on Saturday, head up the East Tamar Highway for cross country at Fairlands on Sunday and return to Faulkner Park for showjumping on Monday.
Launceston Pony Club district commissioner Lucy Glover said the trials made for good spectator viewing.
"Even if people don't know it's on, they'll pull off the highway and watch," Glover said.
"Some people prefer dressage, but most people like the cross country because it's pretty fast and there's water and banks and all sorts."

The trials are open to riders up to 25 years old, with 11-year-old Scarlett Glover one of the youngest.
Having competed at Huntingfield in the state's South last year, the Scotch Oakburn student is preparing for her second state trials aboard Aggie, who is set for a seventh consecutive appearance.
"I feel fine because I'm on the same pony I was riding at Huntingfield - I'm not that nervous," Scarlett said.
St Patrick's College 14-year-old Will Andrews will be one of five male competitors participating this weekend.
He too will be taking part in his second state trials.
"I started pony club when I was about six, but I've only really been competing for the last two years," the Lilydale District Pony Club rider said.
"On my mum's side of the family they always had horses - my grandparents used to breed and race thoroughbreds and so my mum rode and she got me into it and it's been a thing we've kept going.
"Being one of the only guy riders, it just kind of proves that we can get out and do it and it's not just a female sport."
The state trials are shared between the state's North, North-West and South on a three-year rotation.
Events start at 8.30am (Saturday), 9am (Sunday) and 9.30am (Monday).
