The $70,000 project, which had been led by former Derwent Valley mayor and New Norfolk Football Club president Nick Cracknell, finally came to fruition on Monday after several years' work.
Hudson was given the honour of pulling back the curtain at the ceremony which had Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett and chief executive Justin Reeves both in attendance.
Hudson, who turned 75 two weeks ago, was born in New Norfolk in 1946 and kicked 382 goals in three seasons for his hometown club before becoming one of Australian football's greatest full-forwards with Hawthorn.
He slotted 727 goals in 129 games at the Hawks before finishing his career with five years at Glenorchy.
