Metro Tasmania driver Graeme Hutchison caused 89-year-old Rimma Bogdanova's death when she was struck by the bus he was driving in the city CBD in January last year.
On Friday, Magistrate Leanne Topfer said she had found Hutchison was guilty of negligent driving causing death.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant's driving was below the standard of a reasonably prudent driver and accordingly I find him guilty of causing death by negligent driving," Ms Topfer said.
Defence lawyer Stephen Wright argued during a hearing in December that Ms Bogdanova's death was the result of significant blindspots in the bus's design and not his client's driving.
"He simply did not see the deceased on the roadway until immediately prior to the impact," Mr Wright said.
"This was a result of the blindspots, not his failure."
Ms Topfer, however, dismissed this argument.
"The deceased crossed the road on a green pedestrian light," she said.
"The evidence indicated she was walking at a consistent pace. She did not suddenly run out in front of the traffic.
"The defendant did not see her at all.
"Even if there was a blind spot, and I am not satisfied that any blind spots were a factor in the fatality, he did not take sufficient care in the circumstances when turning left into Wilson Street given the blind spot in the bus of which he stated he was aware."
