A Northern Tasmanian man who pleaded guilty to 19 child exploitation material offences was on bail when he searched the internet for images and videos, the Supreme Court in Launceston heard.

Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions prosecutor Krista Brechweg read a statement of facts of the man's offences. Justice Robert Pearce issued a suppression order in relation to the publication of the man's name.
The 42-year-old man pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to access and possess child exploitation child pornography and child abuse materials between 2010 and 2020. While on bail in May 2020 he used a Vivo mobile phone from 11pm to 4.45am to access 21 child pornography videos focusing on solo female masturbation by 12-14 year-olds.

Ms Brechweg said the Australian Federal Police received a tip-off in June 2019 from the Canadian authorities about the sharing of child abuse material via a special server.
In November 2019, the AFP searched a residence and seized seven electronic devices including two mobile phones, a tablet, a hard drive, a laptop and a micro CSD. On January 30, 2020, further material was seized in a second raid and the man put on stricter bail conditions. A further raid occurred in June 2020. AFP analysis found 9138 items classified as child abuse material including 45 items in the highest category.
The material comprised predominantly young females from newborn to 14-years-old. In Snapchat conversations, the man boasted of masturbating while engaging in lewd conversations with girls.
