Friends of Launceston Library is supporting a series of live performance events, Live at the Library, which will provide regular shows for families and children.

"We wanted to show people the library is a fun place to be, there is always something going on," said library service officer Alice Imlach.

The program will showcase a variety of entertainers, authors, storytellers, musicians, actors and more.

The first show, Harry Potter Stories and Surprises, will be held February 26, 5.30pm in the kid's space at the library.

The second show, Super Stories with 'Happy Habits', will be held February 27, 10.30am at Civic Square.

Friends of the Library Launceston vice president Mike McCausland said the group was "delighted to see a regular performance program for children started at the Library".

The events are free and do not require a booking, however social distancing will apply.

Ms Imlach said there was the potential for the program to cater for adults in the future.
