The 2021 iteration of the Royal Launceston Show will be held at its new location at Agfest site Quercus Park. Last year's event was cancelled due to COVID-19, along with many other show events.
Launceston Show Society president Brian Bennett said the move to Quercus Park was an ideal one ahead of the society's 150th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2023.
"The Quercus Park venue is an ideal location to conduct the Royal Launceston Show with most of the necessary infrastructure already established and more than ample space to expand with the current activities of the show," he said.
"This is an exciting and demanding time for members of our society as we move to a new venue and work towards our society's 150th year."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The move from Launceston was sparked after the show society voluntarily relinquished its lease on the former Inveresk site, to allow the City of Launceston council to assist the University of Tasmania to build a car park for its Inveresk campus and the community.
Rural Youth state president Jake Williams said the organisation was delighted to be working with the Launceston Show Society on this year's iteration of the event.
"We welcome the opportunity to host the 140th Royal Launceston Show. With a 229-acre site and ample infrastructure, event organisers are able to plan and deliver COVID-safe and compliant events at Quercus," he said.
Launceston is the only city in Australia to host a Royal Agricultural Show outside of a capital city.
The Royal Launceston Show 2021 will be held at Quercus Park on October 7-8.
