A Burnie man has been arrested in relation to the burglary of a jewellery shop early on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said Dean Walker Designs was broken into and about $40,000 worth of jewellery was taken.

"Police will allege during the early hours of Sunday morning, the male responsible forced entry into the jewellers by smashing a glass door. Inside he smashed display cabinets and removed various items of jewellery estimated to be worth approximately $40,000 before fleeing on foot," the spokesperson said.
The man was taken into custody at his home and was due to appear in court on Sunday evening.
Anyone with further information or who may have observed a male acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Dean Walker designs located at Wilmot Street, Burnie during the early hours of Sunday morning should contact the Burnie Police Station on 131444 or Crimestoppers.
