A bid to appoint NSW police commissioner Mick Fuller to the Australian Rugby League Commission to help stamp out player misbehaviour has been abandoned.

The ARLC and the NSW government held talks on Sunday about the plan to add Fuller to the commission but it was determined it was not legally possible while he holds the police commissioner role.
ARLC chairman Peter V'Landys was believed to have spearheaded the idea to appoint him, after discussions with Fuller following numerous off-field incidents last year involving NRL players and police.
"The ARLC is disappointed that Commissioner Fuller will not be able to join the commission given the skills, experience and value he would have brought to the game," the commission said in a statement.
The decision will be well received by NSW Labor and the Greens, who were both opposed to Fuller adding the commission role to his NSW police position.
With Fuller's potential appointment canned, a vacancy that currently exists on the commission remains to be filled.
