The Premier penned a letter to the AFL last week stating that deals with Hawthorn and North Melbourne could be dropped should an update on a Tassie AFL team not be provided soon.
"My office was in contact with his [McLachlan's] during the week, and we were assured that we would receive advice back by close of business today," Mr Gutwein said.
What's Gutwein's ultimatum?
"We'll wait to see if that arrives, but as I've made perfectly clear: my correspondence to McLachlan, the commission and the two club presidents is that what we want from the AFL is a timeline, or we want them to have the courage to say 'no, you're not going to get a team'."
While rumours have circulated about other teams possibly filling the void should Tassie's two current teams be dropped, Gutwein said those ties weren't so easily cut.
