The Northern Midlands Council and Libraries Tasmania are still discussing the chute's fate more than four months after a decision was made to remove it.
In September the council refused the library's retrospective development application for a book return chute at 55 Wellington Street, Longford.
The council own the heritage listed building and approval was not sought by the library before the chute was installed.
Subsequently, as a result of the council's decision to refuse the DA the library was asked to re-brick the chute on Wellington St.
However, the chute remains and both parties are remaining tight lipped about its future.
Northern Midlands mayor Mary Knowles confirmed the council was in discussions with Libraries Tasmania about the issue but that was all she could comment on the matter.
In other news:
A Libraries Tasmania spokesperson also took the same approach and said they were in discussions with the council on the matter.
A council spokesperson did confirm the chute still needed to be removed but their discussions were ongoing with the library to find a suitable solution.
They said it had to be removed as soon as practical.
In response to who would be responsible for the cost to re-brick the chute, the council spokesperson said the council would "arrange it", but did not provide any further insight to the cost or who exactly would fund the works.
