That's the impression the Tasmania JackJumpers and Basketball Tas have given with their announcement that they want basketball to be Tasmania's number one sport by 2024.
The joint commitment by the organisations includes:
- Basketball to be the number one sport in the state by 2024.
- A 6000-person increase in registered basketball players in Tasmania.
- Establish talent pathways for athletes, coaches, officials and administrators at both a grassroots and professional level.
- Maintain the success of the BTas high performance program.
JackJumpers chief executive Simon Brookhouse said the commitment was made to ensure the sport would flourish alongside the team's entrance into the NBL later this year.
"We will work together to ensure we continue to boost participation in the sport and create pathways for athletes, coaches, officials and administrators from the grassroots to the NBL and all the way to the NBA," he said.
"This is also a key strategic aim of our partnership with the Tasmanian Government as we deliver a team for all Tasmanians.
"Every Tasmanian who wants to play basketball should have an opportunity to do so and we will do everything we can as a sport to ensure they can."
ELSEWHERE IN SPORT:
Since their inception last year, the JackJumpers have secured 2600 foundation members, appointed a head coach in former NBA player and coach Scott Roth, and began works to revamp the Derwent Entertainment Centre to serve as the JackJumpers home nest.
The DEC redevelopment is set to be complete before the JackJumpers first scheduled game in October.
"Basketball throughout the state and country has never been stronger and still has massive growth opportunities," Basketball Tasmania chief executive Chris McCoy said.
"In Tasmania, we have had a 34 per cent growth in registered participants over the last five years and we expect that growth to accelerate significantly with the exposure that the Tasmania JackJumpers will provide.
"Together [with the JackJumpers] we can drive the sport in each of the major indicators of success - participation, development and pathways."

Sport minister Jane Howlett said the latest venture could only be a positive for continued growth for the sport in the state.
