Tributes have flowed on Facebook for Bronson Williams, including from his mother Belinda Bannister, father Adam Williams and family member Jaime Denman.
Ms Bannister wrote that it was a tragic incident that had changed their lives forever.
"Of all the special gifts of life, however great or small, to have you as our son, was the greatest gift of all," she wrote.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"A special time, a special face, a special son, we can't replace.
"With an aching heart, we whisper low, we miss you Bronson and love you so."
Emergency services were called to Bishops Drive just after midday yesterday after Bronson was struck by the garbage truck while riding his bicycle.
Family members have started raising funds for his funeral.
Ms Denman said they wanted to make sure Bronson was remembered in the best way possible.
She said the family had only just bought him his first school clothes.
"He had tried them on just 30 minutes before the horrible accident took place," Ms Denman wrote.
"He was so excited to start big school with his brother and sister. Bronson was very smart and had a bubbly personality."
