Held at Evandale's Tasmania Gun Club, the main event on the TCTA calendar began with some exceptional scores in the 50 target state double rise championship.
Mersey Clay Target Club's Tim Atkins survived a shoot-off to finish with 64/65 as the overall winner, with West Coast shooter Michael Stacey and Mersey's Michael Kelly winning A and B Grade respectively.
An even lengthier shoot-off was required in the 50 target state handicap where the host club's Mitchell Hill (100/100) edged out Hobart's Kent Marriott (99/100) with St Helens' Michael Jones in third.

TCTA state president Fiona Atkins was pleased to see Tasmanian competitors "taking the bulk of the top honours".
"Whilst competitor numbers were slightly down on last year, numbers were quite good and more importantly, scores were consistently high," Atkins said.
"Today's competition certainly augurs well for the next two days."
Action continues from 9am on Sunday with the premier state single barrel and double barrel events.
