It would be fair to say that very few players mastered the course on the day, however Peter Thomson of Ulverstone was one of the few to play below handicap and ran out the overall winner with 39 stableford points.

Launceston golf club president Tony Wilks also shot 39 points, but was beaten on countback and gathered the overall runner-up's prizes.

There were three players with 37 points in division one and honours went to Jon Bennett of Exeter in front of Riverside's Ian Painting with Launceston's Terry Lobley third.

Division two saw Tom Black of Launceston (37) sneak home by one point from Larry Wells of Riverside (36) who grabbed second on countback from Scottsdale's Graeme Booth.

Division three saw local life member Graeme Gregory a clear winner by three points over Philip Doyle (35) and Paul Taylor of Longford on 34 points.

Nearest the pins went to Rob Sindorff on the fourth hole, Painting took out the 13th and David Baker the 14th.

Second shot on the first went to Shane Harris, Greens Beach and John Allenby took the 18th prizes back to Port Sorell.

With 17 clubs represented apart from the host club, the event was very well subscribed.

The NTVGA annual general meeting was held at Deloraine golf club last Friday.

The only position vacant was the position of Secretary and the incumbent, Garry Hearps was elected unopposed.

The NTVGA thanked the club for the use of their facility and the provision of a beautiful morning tea by their volunteers.

Launceston was again the venue last Monday for the first leg of the triangular Riverside Shield.

An annual event between Launceston, Riverside and Mowbray clubs, the keenly sought-after shield is currently held by Launceston.

On a fine day, Launceston held sway at home with an average of 35.8 points, Riverside second on 32.7 points and Mowbray third on 31.8 points.

John O'Shannessey was the clear winner on the day with 43 points.

Division one went to Dale Philpott, of Riverside, division two to Launceston's Rod Elmer and Gary O'Keefe, of Launceston, won division three.

Nearest the pins for Launceston went to Graeme Bingley, Glenn Woods and Ron Walker.

Riverside pin winners were Tim Foley, Peter McLinden and Painting while Mowbray pin winners were Frank Donati, Ross Moore and Robert Hodgetts.

With the next round at Riverside on February 8 and Mowbray hosting the final round on February 17, an enjoyable series is assured by all competitors.

Upcoming events include the Longford ladies day on February 8 and Launceston ladies hosting entrants to their open day on February 11.

Congratulations to Ronan Filgate of Prospect Vale Golf Club, winner of the Bill Wellington Memorial Open Championship.

A tie on 142 a piece was the result after a 36 holes of stroke play forcing a three hole playoff between Filgate and Huon Valley Golf Club's Nathan Gatehouse to decide the winner.

Filgate successfully claimed victory of the 2021 Huon Valley Open Championship after the three-hole playoff.

Congratulations also to Riverside Ladies who entertained 64 players at their open day on Tuesday. A good time was had by all.

An invitation by Kevin Best, President of the Tam O'Shanter Golf and Community Club has been sent to all Northern clubs.

This invitation is for boys and girls, 16 years of age and younger, to participate in the Bass Strait cup at Tam O'Shanter on March 7.

A support event is to be held for 17 and 18-year-olds.

Entry fee is $15 for the 18-hole stableford event sponsored by the Nielsen family.
