The club put out a statement on Monday saying the former Launceston all-rounder had left the BBL hub and returned to Hobart after re-aggravating his hamstring at training on Sunday.
The 30-year-old initially injured his hamstring in the Hurricanes' clash with the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on December 27 and has not played since.
Faulkner had been progressing well with his rehabilitation, with an eye to be eligible for selection later in the tournament. He will undergo scans in Hobart to assess the extent of the injury before resuming treatment.
"At this stage, it is unlikely that Faulkner will be able to take any further part in the tournament," the statement read.
The news cast a cloud over Adam Griffith's side as they prepared to face Sydney Thunder. Faulkner had taken eight wickets at 16.50 in his five games this season.
